3-D stratigraphic framework and geocellular reservoir modeling
is an integral part of reservoir characterization. Strata-search,
LLC utilizes proprietary software to design high detailed
layer structures within the confines of strata units in order
to capture the detailed vertical heterogeneity apparent in
core and well-log data. Based upon appropriate depositional
and stratigraphic constraints, the well-log attributes are
distributed laterally using deterministic mapping algorithms
in order to provide insight to inter-well reservoir heterogeneity.
The resulting model consists of a multi-million-cell model
containing detailed distributions of important reservoir parameters
affecting fluid flow within the delineated flow units. Furthermore,
the model can serve as a foundation for hydrocarbon reserve
determinations or upscaling phases preceding reservoir simulation
studies. A model can also help communicate the reservoir’s
sequence stratigraphic and structural architecture to available
products that implement non-deterministic reservoir-parameter
distribution techniques.
