Petrography is employed as a means of augmenting megascopic
core descriptions and to provide additional rock information
for the clients. We recommend working with blue-dyed epoxy
impregnated thin sections in order to highlight porosity.
We also recommend that carbonate thin sections be stained
for carbonate mineralogy (Alizarin Red-S and potassium ferricyanide)
and siliciclastic thin sections be stained for potassium feldspar
(sodium cobaltinitrite). Thin-section descriptions address
the mineral constituents, allochems, texture, sorting (or
crystal size range), pore types and the type and abundance
of pore-filling cements or alteration product. We also provide
a diagenetic interpretation, or paragenetic history. Petrographic
reports consist of observations, descriptions of each sample,
photomicrographs with labels and captions, and interpretations.
